The average indoor water use of a typical family is almost 70 gallons of water per day per person.

Leaky toilets can waste up to 200 gallons per day if not properly fixed. All of this water will enter your septic system and can cause the system to work harder at treating the wastewater. The more conservative your family is with water usage the longer your septic system will work properly.

Water Conservation Products:

  • High efficiency toilets.
  • Faucet aerators.
  • High efficiency showerheads.
  • Water fixtures

A standard use toilet accounts for approximately 30 gallons of household water use. Older toilets typically have a 3.5 - 5 gallon reservoir while newer low water toilets have about a 1.6 gallon reservoir. You may want to look into installing low flow toilets to help eliminate excessive water flow into your septic tank from your toilets.

Faucet aerators and high efficiency showerheads can help reduce water flow into your septic tank.

You should periodically check the water fixtures throughout your home to ensure that you do not have any leaks that could be causing water waste. Leaking fixtures can add several extra gallons of water to your septic system and is wasteful to boot!!
